Williams Outlasts Women's Volleyball In Five Sets at NCAA Regional Semifinals

Williamstown, Mass. – November 16, 2013 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team fought valiantly but ulitmatley dropped a five-set match at Williams College in the NCAA Division III Championship Regional Semifinals on Saturday evening. Set scores for the Ephs were 25-21, 20-25, 18-25, 25-20, 15-11.

Springfield’s season comes to a close in the regional semifinals for the second-season in a row as it ends the year with a 26-6 record. It marked the fourth-straight season that the Pride played in the NCAA Division III Championship.

Tessa Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) finished her remarkable career at Springfield with 15 kills and 12 digs on the night, while Kelsey McGayhey (Shelter Island, N.Y.) tallied 14 kills and five blocks on a .444 hitting percentage. Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) chipped in 10 kills, and Amy Entel (Berkley, Mass.) was sensational on the defensive end with 29 digs.

Whitney Miller (Cuba, N.Y.) was credited with 35 helpers and 12 digs in leading the Springfield offense to a .262 hitting percentage on the night.


Williams and Springfield battled earlier this season in the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational, with the Pride prevailing in five sets.

Both Smolinski and McGayhey were named to the regional all-tournament team for their standout play in the two matches.
