Springfield, Mass.-October 3, 2014- The Springfield College men's tennis team prevailed 6-3 over cross town rival Western New England Friday night on Appleton Courts.
The win wass the first for the Pride on the year, improving its record to 1-2.
Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) had a strong showing for Springfield, as they were successful at No.1 doubles and their respective singles matches. The two battled to the wire with Andres Otero and Alexander Sauce of Western New England, but eventually capped off the 9-8 win.
The two carried that momentum in singles play, as DeVarennes captured a 6-1, 6-0 victory at the top spot, while Danielewicz and Sauce battled it out once again, finally closing the night with a Springfield 7-5, 7-5 win.
Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) and Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) rounded out the scoring for the Pride. Beynor posted a 6-1, 6-3 tally at No. 3 singles and Grant triumphed 1-6, 6-4, 6-3 at No. 5 singles.
