Springfield, Mass. - April 1, 2015 - The Springfield College men's tennis team started off New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play with a 9-0 victory over Emerson College on Wednesday afternoon in the Field House at Springfield College.

With the win, the Pride move to 4-4 on the season and 1-0 in conference play. With the loss, the Lions fall to 0-3 on the year and 0-1 in the NEWMAC.

Sophomore's Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) were the top performers for the Pride, as the two captured No. 1 and No. 2 singles and then teamed up to take the 8-1 victory in No. 1 doubles.  DeVarennes, last season's NEWMAC Rookie of the Year took the No. 1 singles title 6-0, 6-1 over Emerson's Nik Rhodes.  DeVarennes claimed the No. 2 slot with a 6-2, 6-1 win.

Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) battled it out against counterpart Joshua Freud (6-3, 6-1), while teammate Joshua Robinson (Southold, N.Y.) claimed No. 4 singles (6-2, 6-1).

Nate Weissman (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Chris Unger (Westfield, Mass.) rounded out the scoring in singles with victories in No. 5 (6-1, 6-0) and No. 6 (6-0, 6-1) singles respectively.

Beynor and Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) clashed with Emerson's Joshua Freud and Spencer Sabo in No. 2 doubles play, which ended 8-3 in the Pride's favor.

Robinson and Weissman concluded the showdown with an 8-2 triumph in No. 3 doubles against Aren Kabarajian and Matthew Jepsky.

Springfield will return to the courts on Saturday versus MIT at 1:00 pm.
