Men's Tennis Handles Emerson, 9-0, In NEWMAC Opener

Springfield, Mass. - April 5, 2017 - The Springfield College men's tennis team handled Emerson, 9-0, on Wednesday afternoon in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Appleton Courts.

The victory boosted Springfield's record to 9-2, 1-0 in NEWMAC play, while the Lions dropped to 1-2, 0-1.

The Pride cruised through doubles play, led by Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) and Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.), who delivered an 8-0 at No. 2.  Alex Romaine (Stamford, Conn.) and Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) produced an 8-1 win at the No. 1 doubles position and Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) and Cameron Grant (Babylon, N.Y.) added an 8-3 victory at No. 3

Danielewicz posted a 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 4 singles to highlight Springfield's efforts, while both Honda and Beynor notched 6-1, 6-1 victories at No. 3 and No. 5, respectively.  Grant eased his way to a 6-1, 6-2 win at No. 6 and DeVarennes was triumphant at the top spot by virtue of a 6-0, 6-3 win.  Romaine added the Pride's final win of the afternoon after earning a 6-2, 7-5 win at the No. 2 spot.

Springfield will now prepare to face MIT on Saturday afternoon when it travels to Cambridge for a 11 am match.
