Springfield College Director of Athletics, Dr. Craig Poisson, is pleased to annouce that Emily Bellin '17 will take over as the interim head coach for the Springfield College women's gymastics program for the 2022-23 season.
"In one way or another Emily has been involved with our women's gymnastics program for the past nine years and I am grateful for her willingness to serve as our interim head coach for the 2022-2023 academic year," said Poisson. "Coach Bellin's strong teaching skills and passion for gymnastics bode well for our women gymnasts coming off their appearance in the 2022 NCGA Championships."
Bellin, a former women's gymnastics student-athlete on Alden Street, has been a tremendous asset to the program over her time as an assistant coach. In her role of volunteer assistant coach, the Springfield College women's gymnastics program has witnessed sustained success both competitively and academically. Bellin had a part in the developement of two national champions, Tali Twomey in 2018 and
Winter Osborne in 2022, as well as seven NCGA All-America honorees. The program also has produced nation's best team grade-point average among Division III women's gymnastics teams each of the last four seasons.
Last season, Bellin was a part of a historical performance in Blake Arena at the NCGA East Regional when the Pride earned three individual titles and a runner up finish that helped punch its ticket to the NCGA Championships. Since the inception of the NCGA East Championships in 2015, this is only the third time that one institution has had three champions. At the national championships, Bellin was honored for her oustanding contributions over the course of the season by being named NCGA Assistant Coach of the Year.
"I am incredibly excited to be named the Interim Head Coach for the women's gymnastics team at Springfield College. I want to thank Dr. Poisson for this opportunity and am eager to work with the student athletes, coaches, staff, and administrators throughout this year," said Bellin. "I would also like to thank Coach Raymond and Coach Najuch for their leadership and guidance over the past nine years. I look forward to leading our student athletes in spirit, mind, and body and continuing the tradition of excellence."
Aside from her duties as interim head coach, Bellin will continue to work as a special education teacher in the city of Springfield, where she has been impacting elementary-aged students since 2017.
