New London, Conn. – October 21, 2008 — Sophomore Brittany Collins scored a pair of goals while graduate student Nicole Hanewich had a goal and two assists leading Springfield to a 6-1 win over Coast Guard in a New England WomenÂ's and MenÂ's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game, the Bears final home game of the season.
Freshman Jen Jahoda scored her team leading seventh goal, on a header, just 2:21 into the match with Hanewich assisting for a 1-0 lead.
Collins scored her first goal, an unassisted goal, in the 38th minute as the Pride took a 2-0 lead to the half.
Hanewich scored exactly six minutes into the second half and senior Shanda Kogut assisted for a 3-0 lead.
Junior Caitlin Sawczuk increased the lead to 4-0 with Hanewich adding her second assist in the 56th minute.
Coast Guard got its only goal of the game as freshman Angela Lozano scored her first career goal with classmate Erin Nolan assisting in the 75th minute making it a 4-1 game.
Collins added her second goal from junior Allie Bazzano less than two minutes later in the 76th minute before junior Maria Evans scored the final goal of the game with an assist from freshman Katie Mantie with just 2:40 left.
Springfield , which is currently ranked 22nd in the country with a 10-3-2, 5-1-1 record, outshot Coast Guard 22-6.
Senior Sue Jenney made two saves to pickup the win for the Pride while freshman Mary Mills made 12 saves for Coast Guard (5-9, 1-6), which has dropped three straight.
