Women's Volleyball Breezes Past Mount Holyoke, 3-0

South Hadley, Mass. – October 7, 2008 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team cruised to victory on Tuesday evening in a three-game sweep at Mount Holyoke in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action.

The Pride won by the scores of 25-11, 25-16, 25-8, and is now 17-4 on the year and 5-0 in league play.

In just three games of action, the Pride had several terrific offensive performances, led by local product Bethany Stosz, who hammered out a team-best 11 kills at a .786 hitting percentage in the win. Lauren Torvi provided a spark for Springfield as she notched 10 kills on 13 attempts with no errors in the match. Heather Lively chipped in with 10 kills as well, and Heidi Yohe added nine kills and five service aces in the match.

Aylene Ilkson recorded 13 digs to lead the defense, while Kelsea Hellyar guided Springfield’s offense with 33 assists in the win.

Springfield returns to action this Friday evening as it hosts the annual Tom Hay Invitational, with an eye towards raising awareness towards breast cancer during the Invitational. The Pride and Westfield State will kick-off the event at 5:00 pm in Blake Arena.
