Women's Volleyball Sweeps Wheaton (Mass.)

Norton, Mass. — October 7, 2026 — The Springfield College women's volleyball team swept New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opponent Wheaton (Mass.) in a Wednesday night matchup.

The Pride won by set scores of 27-25, 25-21, 25-23 and improve to 11-4 overall and 3-2 in conference play while the Lyons drop to 5-12, 0-5.

Jodi Saelua (Mililani, Hawaii) and Gabbie Weissgarber (Colorado Springs, Colo.) each notched seven kills and combined for seven blocks. Tori Colosimo (Fairport, N.Y.) dished out 26 assists while Caroline Burg (Vernon, Conn.) registered 22 digs.

It was a back-and-forth start to the first set as Springfield seemingly looked to be pulling away when the Pride went on a 5-0 run to lead 18-16 which was highlighted by two kills from Ahunna James (Plainville, Mass.). The Lyons countered and went on a three-point spurt before Springfield scored five of the final six points of the match and a block from Weissgarber and James sealed the first set win, 27-25.

The Pride got off to a quick lead after a Wheaton service error sparked six straight points from Springfield. Colosimo notched an ace and a kill from Alexa Bonato (Woodbridge, Conn.) capped the run as Springfield extended its lead, 15-8. The teams exchanged points as the Lyons looked to try to get back in it, but an attack error allowed Springfield to get the win, 25-21.

Springfield jumped out to a quick 14-5 lead scoring six points from Wheaton errors. The Lyons then went on a 4-0 run but a kill from Weissgarber stopped it and the Pride continued to push ahead. A service ace from Avery Chandler (Stoneville, N.C.) moved Springfield to set point and a service error allowed the Pride to win it, 25-23.

The Pride will head to Coast Guard on Tuesday for a 6:00 pm conference matchup.
