Worcester, Mass. – October 24, 2009 — Jen Jahoda assisted on a pair of Springfield goals just 1:15 apart midway through the first half to spark the Pride to a 4-0 shutout over host WPI in a NEWMAC womenÂ's soccer contest on Saturday afternoon. With the win, Springfield ups its record to 9-4-3 overall and 4-2-2 in conference action while WPI drops to 7-10 on the year and 3-5 in NEWMAC play.
Jackie Moscardelli got Springfield on the board at 17:57 when she buried a feed from Jahoda for her second goal of the fall following a WPI turnover. The visitors added to their lead at 19:12 when Jahoda set up Caitlin Sawczuk for her fourth marker of the season.
The Pride, ranked sixth in this weekÂ's initial NCAA New England Division III regional rankings, extended its advantage to 3-0 at the break with a goal on a long shot from junior Brittany Collins at 39:53. Classmate Jen Courossi was credited with an assist on the play.
Springfield netted the only goal of the second half when Courtney Price headed in CollinsÂ' corner kick midway through the stanza for her third goal of the year.
Katie Delude made one stop in goal for the Pride en route to earning her second shutout this season. Rebecca Newman and Ally Stoyle split time in between the pipes for WPI. Newman was credited with three saves in the first half while Stoyle turned away four shots in the second half.
Suzanne Najem had the best scoring chance for the Crimson and Gray, who were outshot 16-1 on the day. Springfield took all four of the gameÂ's corner kicks.
Both squads close out their regular season schedules on Tuesday with NEWMAC tilts. WPI entertains Babson at 7pm while Springfield heads to Northampton for a 4pm matchup with Smith.
