Springfield, Mass. – October 6, 2009 – The Springfield College women’s soccer battled to a scoreless draw against visiting Clark University in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) game on Tuesday evening.
The tie brings Springfield’s record to 6-2-3, 1-0-2 in league action, while Clark now stands at 6-4-1, 2-0-1 in NEWMAC play.
Despite not finding the back of the net in the game, the Pride held a 16-4 advantage in the shot department. Clark goalkeeper Joanna Clark finished the contest with 10 saves between the pipes for the visitors, while Springfield’s Katie Delude notched three saves.
The Pride had a pair of great chances in the second overtime to score but were unable to convert. With just over three minutes left in the contest, Brittany Collins had a point-blank shot from inside the six-yard box that was turned aside by Clark. With only 14 seconds remaining, Caitlin Sawzuck ran onto a through ball and had a breakaway towards the Clark goal, but her left-footed attempt sailed just left of the post.
Springfield returns to action on Saturday afternoon for a crucial conference match against rival Wheaton. Kick off is scheduled for 1:00 pm.
