Springfield, Mass. – October 5, 2010 – Jackie Moscardelli scored the game’s only goal in the 66th minute to lift the Springfield College women’s soccer team past visiting Smith College, 1-0, in a New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest on Tuesday evening.
The win lifts Springfield to 7-4 on the season, including a 3-1 record in conference play. Smith falls to 1-7-1, 0-3-1.
The Pride dominated the match as it tallied 18 shots in the victory and held Smith without a shot for the entire game. Springfield also took 12 corner kicks, while the Pioneers earned one for themselves. Erin Greenstein was not tested as she earned the shutout victory in goal. Her counterpart, Lindsey Gregor, totaled 10 saves in 90 minutes of action.
Springfield had a pair of quality chances in the first half, but Suzanne Silva and Erica Donnelly each had their shots just miss the back of the net as they clanged off the post.
Moscardelli finally broke through for Springfield at the 65:59 mark as she took a feed from Jenelle Jahoda and carried the ball into the 18-yard box before powering a tremendous shot into the left corner for the game’s only marker.
This season, Moscardelli has tallied three goals for the Pride, all of which have been game-winning strikes.
The Pride return to the pitch on Saturday afternoon when it travels for a conference game at WPI.
