Women's Soccer Falls to #7 Williams, 2-1

Springfield, Mass. — September 14, 2010 — Carla Nicasio scored in the first four minutes to lead her #7-ranked Williams College women’s soccer team to a 2-1 victory over Springfield College tonight at Springfield’s Brock-Affleck Field.

With the win, Williams is now 2-0-1, while SC falls to 2-3.

Nicasio is a freshman forward from Rowayton, Conn. Her goal came at the 3:21 mark into the first half.

The Ephs made it 2-0, Williams, with 15:17 left in the game when sophomore Bridget Gallagher (Cranford, N.J.) scored from the right side of the net. That proved to be the game-winner. There was no assist.

Springfield averted the shutout with 13 seconds left when senior midfielder Suzanne Silva (Ludlow, Mass.) popped one into the back of the net. That goal was also unassisted.

For Springfield, sophomore goalkeeper Erin Greenstein Framingham, Mass.) record nine saves, giving up both goals. For Williams, sophomore Laura Wann (Palos Verdes, Calif.) recorded a scoreless first half, making two saves. In the second half, senior Julia Schreiber (Cockeysville, Md.) allowed the one goal, recording four saves.

Up next, Springfield will host Coast Guard in New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference play on Saturday at 3 pm.
