Keene State Blanks Field Hockey, 4-0

Box Score

Springfield, Mass. – September 7, 2010 – Elizabeth Coffin found the back of the cage twice in the second half to lead the Keene State field hockey team to a 4-0 win on the road at Springfield College on Tuesday evening in a non-conference matchup.

The victory boosts Keene StateÂ's record to 3-0 this season, while the Pride drop its first contest of the year to fall to 2-1.

The Owls found the back of the cage first as Alexandra Billert came off the bench to provide the Owl offense with a spark. Teammate Kerry Howe sent a blistering centering pass from the right side of the field, which Billert redirected into the back of the cage, giving the visitors a 1-0 advantage.

Keene State put the game away in the second half as it scored three goals en route to the 4-0 victory. Aislynn Sherry started the scoring as she struck early in the second half, firing home an unassisted goal at the 38:23 mark.

The Owls continued the offensive pressure as Coffin netted a pair of strikes in an eight-minute span. Coffin scored her first as she deflected a Katlyn Simula bid from the top of the circle into the cage midway through the second half. She then converted a one-timer from Chelsea Blackmer, giving her two goals in a span of just under eight minutes, and putting Keene State up 4-0 with 10:00 left on the clock.

For the game, Meghan Ledoux saved all 13 of Springfield’s shots to earn the shutout victory, while Alison McCarthy posted eight saves in goal for the Pride.

Springfield returns to action on September 16, when it hosts Connecticut College at 4:30 on Stagg Field.
