Springfield, Mass. – September 8, 2010 – Senior Brittany Collins scored the game-winning strike in the 89th minute as the Springfield College women’s soccer team slipped past rival Western New England, 1-0, on Wednesday afternoon.
After losing its season opener, Springfield has now won its last two contests to improve to 2-1 on the season. The loss drops WNEC to 1-3 this season.
Collins strike came in the 89th minute, as she placed a shot off the crossbar and in to seal the win for the Pride.
The Golden Bear attack was led by freshman forward Nina Vita with four shots, including three on target, and senior midfielder Shannon Pescatello who also totaled four shots in the contest.
Springfield College sophmore goalkeeper Erin Greenstein made six stops in her shut out effort for the Pride. WNEC freshman goalkeeper Victoria Trezise had a solid collegiate debut, turning away seven shots for the Golden Bears.
The Pride return to the field on Saturday afternoon when it travels to square off against Brandeis at 3:00 pm.
