Two First-Half Goals Hold Up In No. 15 Trinity's Win Over Field Hockey

Box Score

Springfield, Mass – October 20, 2011 – The visiting Trinity College field hockey team used two goals in the opening 13 minutes of play to defeat Springfield College, 2-0, in non-conference action at Stagg Field on Thursday.

Trinity entered the game ranked 15th in this week’s NFHCA National poll and improves to 9-3 with the win. Springfield falls to 3-12 with the loss.

The Bantams registered the first goal of the night just 5:19 into the contest. Hadley Duncan broke away from the Pride defense and carried the ball 30 yards on a breakaway before blasting home a goal to give the visitors an early 1-0 lead.

Trinity added to their lead at the 12:41 mark on Duncan’s second marker of the game. This time, she was on the receiving end of an Alanna CapassoÂ's centering pass from the endline which she slammed home on the doorstep.

That would be all the scoring that the visitors would need to earn the shutout win. Trinity finished the contest with a 22-1 advantage in shots and took 15 of the game’s 17 corners.

Grace Bibber kept Springfield in the game with 12 saves, including 10 in the second half. Gina Dinallo wasn’t forced to make a save in the victory.

The Pride will play at home once again on Saturday morning when it hosts Babson in a key New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) clash. First whistle is set for 11:00 am.
