Springfield, Mass. – February 5, 2011 – The Springfield College womenÂ's swimming and diving team fell to the visiting Lord Jeffs of Amherst College, 172-120, this afternoon at Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Kellie Pennington led the way for the Pride, winning the 100 yard freestyle easily in 0:52.91. Pennington was the lone Springfield swimmer to find the winnerÂ's circle on the afternoon.
Others that swam well for the hosts included Caroline Kosciusko, who finished second in the 50 yard freestyle event. Kosciusko posted a time of 0:25.60, just ahead of teammate Jacyln VanWaalwijk, who finished in third place in 0:25.91.
Meredith Trumbull scored well for the Pride in the 200 yard backstroke, clocking in at 2:15.18, good for a second place finish. The third and final second-place finish achieved by Springfield came from Anna Woodward in the 200 yard breaststroke. Woodward finished in 2:37.18 for the event.
In diving, the PrideÂ's Jennifer Thompson edged out a narrow victory in the one-meter event. Thompson posted a score of 272.62 to eclipse Meggie Meisinger of Amherst for the win. In the three-meter event, Courtney Keefe was SpringfieldÂ's top finisher, snagging second place with a score of 263.55.
Next up for the Pride women are the NEWMAC Conference Championships from February 18-20. The NEWMAC Championship events will be held in South Hadley, Mass.
