Salisbury, Md. – October 14, 2012 – The Springfield College women’s volleyball team rebounded with a pair of victories against New Paltz and Mary Washington on Sunday in the Salisbury Invitational. For their efforts, Whitney Miller and Tessa Smolinski earned All-Tournament Team honors.

With the two victories, Springfield improved to 21-5 on the season. After falling to New Paltz in five sets last Saturday in the Tom Hay Invitational, the Pride got the best of the Hawks on Sunday morning by the scores of 19-25, 25-14, 27-25, 23-25, 15-13. Later in the afternoon, the Pride grinded out a 25-22, 30-28, 23-25, 25-22 victory over Mary Washington.

In the victory over the Hawks, Smolinski had a terrific showing, posting 27 kills and 23 digs. Kelsey McGayhey totaled 12 kills and Mary Consol notched eight kills and eight blocks. Miller directed the Springfield attack with 48 assists, seven digs, to go along with six blocks. Amy Entel led the defensive effort with 24 digs.

A balanced team effort helped Springfield to a four-set win against Mary Washington. Smolinski totaled a team-best 16 kills to go along with 16 digs, while Daniella Crismani posted 16 digs and 10 kills. Entel had 20 digs and Clare Henry tallied 14 digs of her own. Consol registered five blocks and Molly Giannattasio added 33 assists, 11 digs, and five kills.

Springfield will play again on Tuesday night when it takes on Smith at home beginning at 7:00 pm.
