Springfield, Mass. – October 16, 2012 – Mary Hogan found the back of the net with 4:56 left in the second overtime period to propel the Springfield College women’s soccer team to a thrilling 1-0 double overtime victory over Coast Guard at Brock-Affleck Field on Tuesday evening.
The win boosts the Pride’s record to 9-4-1, but more importantly, Springfield improves to 6-1 and remains tied for first in the log jam of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) standings. Coast Guard nearly picked up its first conference point of the season as it fell to 2-11, 0-7.
Springfield controlled the game throughout, holding a 24-4 advantage in shots and finally broke through in the second overtime period.
With under five minutes left in the period, Hogan received a pass from Nina Vital and drilled a shot into the top left corner to send the Springfield faithful into an uproar. It proved to be Springfield’s third double overtime victory of the 2012 campaign.
Erin Greenstein finished the evening with three saves to earn another shutout. Devin Fellman kept the Bears in the game throughout with her play between the pipes, and was credited with 20 saves in the loss.
The Pride will resume action on Saturday when it hosts Mount Holyoke at 2:30 pm.
