No. 12 Trinity Shuts Down Field Hockey, 6-0

Hartford, Conn. – Oct. 17, 2012 – The Springfield College field hockey team suffered a 6-0 setback at Trinity College in non-conference field hockey action Wednesday evening under the lights on Sheppard Field.

Senior co-captain midfielder Haley Thompson scored the opening goal and added two assists to lead the 12th-ranked Bantams, who improved to 10-2 overall, while Springfield fell to 6-8 on the year.

ThompsonÂ's well placed shot came off a penalty corner early in the first half, and the Bantams continued to pour on the offense. Supported by another strong showing by the Trinity defense, junior goalie Anne Marie Scalambrino needed just one save to record her fifth shutout of the season.

Six different Bantams found the back of the net, including sophomore Sophie Doering, senior Hadley Duncan, first-year Olivia Tapsall, junior Paige Duke, and first-year Brooke Heron.

Trinity outshot Springfield 20-1 in the game. First-year goalie Timarie Villa recorded two stops in the game for Springfield.

Springfield will play at Mount Holyoke on Saturday. Game time is set for 1:00 pm.
