Williams Topples Women's Soccer, 3-0

Springfield, Mass. – September 26, 2012 – Despite owning an advantage in shots in the match, the Springfield College women’s soccer team fell to visiting Williams College, 3-0, on Wednesday evening in non-conference play at Brock-Affleck Field.

The Ephs improved to 5-2 on the year, while Springfield dropped to 4-3.

Springfield finished the match with a 9-6 edge in shots, while Williams took three of the game’s four corner kicks. It proved to be an evenly played contest, however it was Williams that made the most of their offensive chances.

Williams netted the game’s first goal at the 11:05 mark off a strike from Haley Cook. After Chloe Kuh chipped a ball from the top left off the box, Cook took one touch before sliding a shot past Springfield’s keeper Erin Greenstein.

The Ephs added another goal just before intermission, finding the back of the net with 2:03 on the clock. Crystal Lewin tapped a pass to Lindsey Vandergrift, who in turned fired a shot into the top left corner that clanged off the cross back and over the goal line.

With 30:07 left in regulation, Williams scored the final goal of the match. Following a corner kick, Abby Morss blasted a shot from top of the box that was knocked away by Greenstein. However, Carla Nicasio one-timed her shot off the rebound from one yard out into the right side of net.

Hannah Van Wetter posted five saves in goal for the visitors, while Greenstein notched two stops.

Springfield will hit the road for an important conference matchup at Babson. Kick off is slated for 2:30 pm.
