Springfield, Mass. – October 16, 2013 - Kelly Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) scored in the 53rd minute for the Springfield College field hockey team to force overtime with Trinity on Wednesday at Stagg Field, but the Pride ultimately fell by a 2-1 score.
Sarah Duncan (Dedham, Mass.) ran down the right side of the field and sent a cross-pass into Casey Quinn (Providence, R.I.) who tapped it in for the game-winning goal just two minutes into overtime.
Trinity improves to 6-5 on the season with the win while the Pride fall to 3-9.
Trinity got on the board early, scoring the game's first goal in the sixth minute. Julia Rivera (Silver Spring, Md.) took a shot off a corner penalty and Paige Duke (Dedham, Mass.) came in for the finish, one-timing it into the back of the net for her second goal of the season.
With 23:25 left in the game, Trinity's Olivia Tapsall (Old Greenwich, Conn.) had a breakaway, but MK Murray (Killingworth, Conn.) came up big for Springfield with a takeaway to preserve the one-goal game.
Springfield took advantage in the 53rd minute, when Kelly Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) struck for her eighth goal of the season. Katie Gill (Wallingford, Conn.) got the assist as the Pride tied the game up at a goal apiece.
Jamie Raccosta (Hopewell Junction, N.Y.) made a big play defensively, late for the Pride. The freshman deflected a Trinity shot, preserving the 1-1 tie.
Springfield almost capitalized on a corner with just three minutes left in the game. Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) ripped a shot, but it went just wide, past the right side of the goal.
Trinity had the edge in corners, 9-2 and shots, 11-4.
Juliana Barrasso (Bayport, N.Y.) had four saves in goal for Springfield. Sophie Fitzpatrick (Duxbury, Mass.) made one save for Trinity.
Springfield will begin a three-game slate of NEWMAC match ups, hosting Wellesley on Saturday at 1:00 p.m. Trinity will head back into conference play, hosting Wesleyan on October 23rd at 6:00 p.m.
