Field Hockey Blanks Clark, 1-0, For Important Conference Win

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. – October 22, 2013Libby Hart (Chatham, Mass.) scored the game's only goal at the 14:03 mark of the first half to propel the Springfield College field hockey team to a critical 1-0 win at Clark University in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action on Tuesday.

The win snaps the Pride's three-game slide as it improves to 4-10, 2-4 in league action. The loss drops Clark to 8-8 on the year, 1-5 against conference foes.

The visitors got all the scoring they would need early in the first half when Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) set up Hart for her second goal of the season off of a penalty corner at 14:03.

Clark meanwhile had trouble mustering any offense, as the Springfield defense limited the hosts to just three shots on the evening.

The Cougar defense stood tall, however as netminder Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) made eight saves and the backline helped to only allow one goal despite facing 14 penalty corners.

Juliana Barrosso (Bayport, N.Y.) needed to make just three saves to collect not only her second career victory but her second career shutout. Springfield finished the evening with a 9-3 edge in shots.

The Pride will play again on Saturday morning at 10:30 am when it hosts Smith as part of Homecoming festivities on campus.
