Springfield, Mass. – November 9, 2013 – The Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team fell to visiting MIT, 173-126, on Saturday afternoon in the Art Linkletter Natatorium.
Springfield College opened the meet with the team of Kelsey Poole (Westfield, Mass.), Emily Medeiros (Owego, N.Y.), Christiana Greco (Wilbraham, Mass.), and Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.) placing second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:52.02.
In the 1000 freestyle, Ashleigh Monroe (Southbury, Conn.) finished first after touching in 11:01.98.
The Pride had a strong showing on the one-meter and three-meter boards. Jennifer Thompson (Cheshire, Conn.) led the way placing first in both the one-meter and three-meter with scores of 249.67 and 252.97 respectively. Morgan Kitzmiller (Dover, Pa.) took second in both diving events with scores of 245.17 on the one-meter and 245.99 on the three-meter.
Kellie Pennington (Monson, Mass.) picked up a win in the 100 meter freestyle with a time of 53.61. Pennington was runner-up in both the 200 freestyle at a 1:57.78 mark and the 50 freestyle with a time of 24.45.
In the 500 yard freestyle, Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.) touched first in 5:16.30. Meideros placed second in the 100 breaststroke and 200 breaststroke with times of 1:09.49 and 2:32.42 respectively. The Pride closed the meet with the team of Phillips, Dyjak, Poole, and Pennington placing second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:40.56.
Springfield will host Smith Tuesday at 7:00 pm.
