Dedham, Mass. – September 28, 2013- Linnea Quist (New Preston, Conn.) scored twice to lead the Springfield College field hockey team on Saturday, but the Pride fell 5-2 to host Babson.
Babson took a 1-0 lead 11:56 into the game on a goal by Caroline Malone, but Quist tied it up before the first half ended. Freshman Taylor Friedman (Lebanon, N.H.) got the play started with an insert to sophomore Olivia Cabral (Sayville, N.Y.) at the top of the circle. Quist took Cabral's pass on the left edge of the circle and blasted a shot past Babson senior goalkeeper Kayla Florence (Walpole, Mass.) for her second tally of the season.
Babson scored back-to-back goals to open the second half. Elizabeth Holmes notched her fourth goal of the season at 36:43 and Alex Cabreros gave Babson a 3-1 lead with an unassisted goal at 42:57.
Quist tallied her second goal of the game at 47:58, bringing the Pride within a goal. Springfield took several shots and Quist finally found the back of the net off a rebound.
Babson's Morgan Lockwood put the game out of reach with back-to-back goals at 55:54 and 57:04. Those were her seventh and eighth goals of the season. Victoria Spofford earned an assist on Babson's fifth goal, passing to Lockwood from the center of the field, into the circle.
Kelly Gallo (Westfield, Mass.) played well for Springfield, taking three shots on goal. Katie Gill (Wallingford, Conn.) had four shots on goal. Juliana Barrasso (Bayport, N.Y.) made five saves in goal for the Pride.
The Pride fall to 1-6 overall and 0-2 in NEWMAC play. Springfield will host Williams on Wednesday at 7:00 p.m.
