Springfield, Mass. – January 4, 2014 – The Springfield College women’s swimming & diving team won ten events on Saturday, cruising to victories over visiting Hartwick and Union.
The Pride had four double-event winners, beating Hartwick, 184-109 and Union, 166-127.
Ashleigh Monroe (Southbury, Conn.) was a double event winner for the Pride, taking first in both the 500 free and the 1000 free. The sophomore’s took the 500 with a winning time of 5:19.16. She took the 1000 free in 10:51.30. She was also runner up in the 200 free (2:02.46).
Teammate Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.) was also a double winner on Saturday, taking the 200 free in 1:59.08 and the 100 free in 55.90.
Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) was the Pride’s third double winner, sweeping the 100 and 200 breaststroke. She won the 100 with a time of 1:09.83 and took the 200 with a winning time of 2:31.97.
Jennifer Thompson (Cheshire, Conn.) swept both diving events for the Pride, winning to one-meter with a score of 279.25 and the three-meter with a score of 300.20. Teammate Morgan Kitzmiller (Dover, Pa.) was the runner up in the one-meter with a score of 249.30.
The Pride took the top two spots in the 50 free, as freshman Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.) posted a winning time of 25.77 and Nicole Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) finished second in 25.87. Also winning for Springfield was the 200 medley relay team of Kelsey Poole (Westfield, Mass.), Christiana Greco (Wilbraham, Mass.), Medeiros and Scotto. They won with a time of 1:53.45.
Poole was also runner up in both the 100 back (1:02.96) and the 200 back (2:14.60). Greco earned a second place finish in the 100 butterfly with a time of 1:00.26.
The women will compete again on Saturday, January 11, traveling to Middlebury for a 1:00 p.m. start.
