Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - October 1, 2014 - Despite an eight-save performace from senior goalkeeper Lucy Gillett (Rockville Center, N.Y.), the Springfield College women's soccer team fell 2-0 to No. 21 Williams College on Wednesday evening at Brock-Affleck Field.

With the loss, the Pride fall to 4-3-1 overall, while the Ephs improve to 7-1 in the 2014 season. Williams held a narrow 15-13 margin in shots, while putting 10 on net to Springfield's three. The Ephs also held a 10-6 advantage in corners.

Williams goalkeeper, senior Hannah Van Wetter (Lakewood, Colo.), finished the contest with three saves, preserving the clean sheet and picking up the victory for the Ephs.

With 13:58 remaining in the first half, Natasha Albaneze (Northport, N.Y.) gained control of the ball at midfield and fired a ball into Springfield territory, only to have Hannah Kaeser (Pelham, N.Y.) win a foot-race to the ball, and fire a shot on cage that Gillett dove and blocked. The rebound bounced directly back to Kaeser who tapped the ball into the empty net to give the Ephs a 1-0 advantage.

With 27:11 remaining in the contest, Maddie Swarr (Radnor, Pa.) kicked a ball through the Springfield back line, and Audrey Thomas (Bellevue, Wash.) quickly out ran the Springfield defense and Gillett to the ball. After the sophomore took a shot on Gillett that was deflected but still carried toward the net, Thomas sprinted to catch up to the ball before it went out-of-bounds and found the back of the net to push the Williams lead to two.

Springfield will return to Brock-Affleck Field on Saturday when it will host Babson College in a crucial New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest. The game is set to begin at 1 p.m.
