Springfield, Mass. – October 25, 2014 – The Springfield College women's swimming and diving team opened the season with a win on Saturday, taking down Holy Cross, 167-128. Stephanie Antonellis (Orange, Conn.) led the Pride to three first place finishes in the 100-yard backstroke (1:04.26), 400 medley, and 200-yard backstroke (2:17.93).
Freshman Kassandra Lamb (Reading, Mass.) had a stellar beginning to her career as she placed first in the 100 breastroke (1:10.00), first in the 500 freestyle (5:19.41) and third in the 200 freestyle (1:59.36).
Antonellis, Alyssa Carle (Franklin, Mass.), Christiana Greco (Wilbraham, Mass.) and Nicole Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) led the Pride to a first-place finish in the 400 medley, finishing in 4:06.86. They were followed by the relay team of Christine Legsdin (Westminster, Mass.), Lamb, Emily Medeiros (Wakefield, Mass.) and Delaney Dyjak (Ludlow, Mass.), which placed second with a time of 4:12.12.
Carle also produced two first-place finishes in the 200 butterfly (2:15.94) and 200 breaststroke (2:31.56).
Other first-place finishers for the Pride were Christine Shea (Peabody, Mass.) in the 100 yard breaststroke (1:12.66), , Dyjak in the 50 freestyle (25.48), Callie Phillips (East Longmeadow, Mass.) in the 100 freestyle (55.22), and Greco in the 100 butterfly (59.68).
Morgan Kitzmiller (Dover, Pa.) was the winner in the one-meter and the three-meter boards with scores of 250.20 and 249.75 respectively.
The Pride will travel to the University of Rhode Island for a tri-meet on Saturday November 1st at 1:00 p.m.
