Box Score 2 Springfield, Mass. - October 25, 2014 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team knocked off Bowdoin and Middlebury in the second day of the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational on Saturday.
Springfield defeated Bowdoin by the set scores of 23-25, 25-19, 25-12, 25-22 before rallying from a two-set deficit to best Middlebury 25-27, 17-25, 25-17, 25-19, 15-8.
The Pride improve to 20-8 on the season and have now reached the 20-win plateau for the 23rd straight season.
In her fourth-season at Springfield College, head coach Moira Long has led Springfield to a 11-1 combined record in the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational, which annually consists of the top teams in the region.
For her efforts throughout the weekend, sophomore setter Marnae Mawdsley (Bolton, Conn.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Bowdoin entered the match ranked second in New England in this week's NCAA Regional rankings, while the Pride earned the No. 8 ranking.
Against the Polar Bears, Kelsey McGayhey (Shelter Island, N.Y.) tallied 10 kills, hitting .471, to go along with three blocks, while Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) notched nine kills and a pair of blocks. Jennifer Hurwitz (Longmeadow, Mass.) had another impressive showing on the pin, posting seven kills at a .400 clip while adding 12 digs. Amanda Palladino (Cheshire, Conn.) chipped in six kills on 12 errorless swings and three blocks in the middle and Mawdsley dished out 44 assists in the victory.
In the win over Middlebury, Holt controlled the middle with 10 kills and eight blocks, while Elise Brogan (Andover, Mass.) added seven blocks and six kills. Mawdsley registered 45 helpers and McGayhey had a team-best 12 kills to go along with four blocks. Amy Entel (Berkley, Mass.) tallied a team-high 17 digs and Jamie Schneck (Livingston, N.J.) produced four aces.
Entel also reached a milestone in the Middlebury match as she eclipsed the 1,000 dig mark for her career.
Springfield will wrap up the regular season next Saturday when it travels to take on Wellesley in a rematch of last year's New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Championship match. First serve is slated for 1:00 pm.
