Joseph Picks Up 50th Career Win in Softball's Split With Westfield State

Westfield, Mass. – April 29, 2014 - Senior pitcher Jennifer Joseph (Stamford, Conn.) picked up her 50th career win on Tuesday, as the Springfield College softball team split a double header with host Westfield State. The Pride won game one, 6-4 in eight innings, but dropped game two, 9-1 in six innings.

Joseph improves in 10-4 on the season with the win, which gives her the milestone 50th win of her career. She struck out seven in her game one win on Tuesday. Springfield holds a record of 20-13-1 on the year while Westfield State sits at 11-19.

Springfield 6, Westfield State 4 (8 inn.):

In game one, Springfield trailed 3-2 in the bottom of the seventh inning with the bases empty and two outs. Ally Rivelli (North Kingstown, R.I.) started a rally to keep the inning alive by slapping a single through the right side of WestfieldÂ's drawn-in infield. Christina Leader (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.) then tied the score at 3-all when she lined an RBI double to left-center on a 2-0 pitch.

  Springfield scored three runs in the top of the eighth inning, after a huge two-run double to left-center by Jenna Webb (Harrison, N.Y.). Westfield scored a run on a wild pitch in its final at bat.

  The Owls jumped out to a 3-0 first-inning lead in the opener, with the big blow a two-run single by Breanne Bisceglia. Emily Mailloux delivered an RBI single up the middle.

  Springfield scored single runs in the second and third innings on RBI singles by Alyssa Dumphy (Southington, Conn.) and Brittany Lally (Hudson, Mass.).

  Springfield out-hit Westfield, 11-7. Leader led the Pride at the plate; she was 3-for-4 with two doubles and an RBI. Melissa Nelson (Milford, Conn.) was 2-for-4 with a double and two runs scored and Lally laced two singles in four at bats.

  Bisceglia was 3 for 4 and senior catcher Amanda Flower was 2 for 4.

  Westfield State 9, Springfield 1:

In the nightcap, Westfield senior Molly DunbarÂ's three-run home run to left field snapped a 1-1 fourth-inning deadlock to propel the Owls past the Pride.

  Westfield scored six runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 7-1 lead, then scored twice in the sixth in the mercy rule shortened game.

  Westfield out hit Springfield, 9-5. Bisceglia was 2 for 3 with two RBI to finish with five hits and four RBI on the day. Pounding doubles were Liz Raymond and Brittany Martel.

  Brielle Engelbrecht (Granby, Mass.) was 2-for-2 for Springfield.
