Springfield, Mass. – September 6, 2014 – The Springfield College field hockey team opened the 2014 season defeating Husson 2-1, in the first game of the Zenaty Invitational Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

After a scoreless first half, Libby Kain (Dover-Foxcroft, Maine) put Husson on the board first just six minutes into the second half with a strike from 15-yards out.

The Pride answered back three minutes after with a goal from Linnea Quist (New Preston, Conn.). Springfield's Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) sent a crossing pass to Quist who finished from 5 yards out.

Springfield struck again with 14 minutes left to play off a penalty stroke from Krull, burying it past Husson goalkeeper Kaitlin Dolloff (Richmond, R.I.)into the top-right corner.

The Pride outshot the Eagles 21-11, as junior goalkeeper Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.) picked up her first win of the season with 9 saves.

Springfield will host Plymouth State in the championship game of the Zenaty Invitational on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. back on Stagg Field. Husson will take on Brockport in the consolation match at 11:00 am.

Plymouth State 4, Brockport 0

Springfield, Mass. – September 6, 2014 – The Plymouth State Panthers defeated the SUNY Brockport Golden Eagles 4-0, Saturday afternoon in the second game of the Zenaty Invitational.

Kendall Lariviere (Dover, N.H.) got the Panthers off to a quick start scoring 3:14 into the game off a crossing pass from Nikki Garvey (Canaan, N.H.). Two minutes after, Plymouth State extended its lead after Kaitlyn Wilder (Framingham, Mass.) found Garvey on the left side post for a tap in goal.

With 9:49 left in regulation, Wilder scored after controlling a rebound after a save by Eagles goalkeeper Lindsey Farrell (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) off a shot from Garvey.

Wilder continued the push, scoring her second goal of the contest with 6:27 left in play when she controlled the ball from 10-yards out, made a move past Farrell, and finished into an empty net.

Plymouth State goalkeeper Alivia Bates (Pennsauken, N.J.) earned the shutout, recording three saves.
