Springfield, Mass. - January 7, 2015 - Sophomore guard Lexi Windwer (Milton, Mass.) and senior forward Jaimie Bickelhaupt (Brookfield, Conn.) both posted 11-point performances as the Springfield College women's basketball program remained unbeaten in conference play with a 56-41 victory over WPI on Wednesday evening in Blake Arena.

With the win, the Pride have now won six-straight contest, and improve to 4-0 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC), while WPI falls to 9-3 overall and 2-1 in conference play. With Wednesday night's victory, Springfield has now won its last seven NEWMAC contests, dating back to last season's conference quarterfinals, when the Pride defeated Coast Guard, 57-54.

Springfield shot 21-for-53 (39.6%) on the contest, while the Pride held the Engineers to just a shooting percentage of 23.3 percent from the field. Along with her 11 points, Bickelhaupt posted a game-high 12 rebounds, while Dina Pitsas (Milford, N.H.) registered seven points and five boards in the contest. Senior guard Andrea Moschetta (Harrison, N.Y.) and sophomore Danielle Racette (North Adams, Mass.) both tallied four assists in the victory.

For the Engineers, junior guard Lisa Mendez (Yonkers, N.Y.) posted nine points, while Rachel Pineda (Shrewsbury, Mass.) tallied seven points and three boards in the loss.

Springfield jumped out to an early 12-5 advantage after Windwer hit a three-pointer just 4:31 into the contest. After Yasmee Luna (North Providence, R.I.) hit a jumper just minutes later to cut the Engineers to within six, back-to-back lay-ups from Racette and sophomore center Ava Adamopoulos (Ludlow, Mass.) put the Pride up 24-16 with 7:45 remaining in the opening half.

With 4:03 left in the first, Stasha Greenalch (Newington, Conn.) converted on a lay-up underneath the basket to bring WPI back to within four points, but the Pride ended the half on an 8-1 run, capped by a lay-up from Bickelhaupt to send Springfield into the break with a 32-21 advantage.

After Pineda hit a lay-up to bring WPI to within nine points at the 16:46 mark of the second half, Springfield went on an 8-0 run, capped off with a free-throw from senior guard Riley Fake (Brockport, N.Y.) to give the Pride a 17-point advantage midway through the second half.

Springfield saw its lead climb to as much as 21 points when freshman forward Heather King (Lebanon, N.H.) nailed a jump shot from the elbow with 6:37 left in the game. Springfield was able to convert on its free-throws in the final minutes of the contest, icing the victory.

The Pride return to action on Saturday, January 10 when it will travel to Wheaton College to take on the Lyons at 1 p.m. Earlier this season, Springfield defeated Wheaton 55-43 behind a career-high 18 points from junior forward Emily Gins (Fort Myers, Fla.).
