Box Score Worcester, Mass. - October 20, 2015 - Senior forward Katie Gill (Wallingford, Conn.) notched five points and played a role in all three of the Springfield College field hockey team's goals on Tuesday night, as the Pride defeated Clark, 3-2, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play.
With the win, Springfield is now 6-8 overall and 2-4 in league play, while Clark falls to 5-10 on the season, and 1-5 against NEWMAC opponents. The Pride held a 15-5 shot advantage over 70 minutes of play, while the Cougars posted eight penalty corners to Springfield's five.
Senior goalkeeper Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.) registered three saves in the win, while for the Cougars, Christine Tinsman (Prairie Village, Kan.) finished with 11 stops of her own in the loss.
Springfield opened the game's scoring just 16:47 into the contest when Gill posted her seventh goal of the season after finding the back of the off a feed from sophomore Maggie Kennedy (Clay, N.Y.). Just 4:06 into the second half, Gill returned the favor, setting up Kennedy for her seventh goal of the year, putting the Pride up a pair.
Clark then cut its deficit in half when Julia Baud (Utrecht, Netherlands) took in a pass from Olivia Barksdale (Fort Washington, Md.) and snuck a shot past Villa to make it 2-1, before the Cougars pulled even after a goal from Maria Manning (Manchester, N.H.) with 20:49 remaining in the contest.
With 9:27 left, Gill picked up her team-leading eighth goal of the season to push the Pride to victory.
Up next, Springfield will host play its second of three games in five days when it travels to Johnson & Wales on Thursday for a 4 p.m. tilt.
