Box Score Northampton, Mass. - October 23, 2015 -The Springfield College women's volleyball team began the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational with a three-set sweep over Hamilton at Smith College on Friday evening. Springfield won by the set scores of 25-18, 25-23, 25-9.
Springfield, ranked fourth in New England according to this week's NCAA Regional Rankings, won its 15th-straight match to improve to 24-2. The loss dropped Hamilton's record to 4-16.
The Pride, which currently owns the best hitting percentage in the nation, hit at a .392 clip in the straight-set win. Kayleigh Helgesen (Oceanside, Calif.) continued to produce on the right side as she pounded a team-best 12 kills at a .611 clip, while Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) racked up nine blocks, including four solo stuffs, to go along with five kills on 11 errorless swings. Marnae Mawdsley (Bolton, Conn.) and Molly Giannattasio (East Lyme, Conn.) directed the Springfield attack, combining for 29 assists. First-year classmates Hannah Lozano (Stockton, Calif.) and Hayley Kmetz (Ardsley, N.Y.) each impressed in the win, with Lozano totaling 14 digs and Kmetz producing six kills and four blocks.
The Pride will continue action on Saturday when it takes on Trinity at 10:00 am before clashing with Wesleyan at 2:00 pm.
