Women's Soccer Suffers 1-0 Setback to WPI

Worcester, Mass. - October 24, 2015 - The Springfield College women's soccer program fell to WPI, 1-0, on Saturday afternoon at Alumni Field.

With the loss, Springfield, which was ranked fifth in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III women's soccer regional rankings, falls to 9-5-2 overall and 5-3-1 in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play. WPI improves to 10-5-1 (5-3-1) with the victory.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) made four stops and took the loss, while her counterpart, Gabi Hoops (Stonington, Conn.) only needed two saves in the loss. The Engineers held a 13-6 shot advantage, while also posting two corner kicks to Springfield's one.

Just 19:45 into the contest, WPI scored the lone goal of the contest when Jane Bingel (Wrentham, Mass.) finished a play that was set up by Emily Doherty (Shrewsbury, Mass.) to give the Engineers an early 1-0 advantage. WPI was able to hold off a late charge from Springfield, escaping with the one-goal victory.

Up next, Springfield will return to Brock-Affleck Field when it will host Simmons College on Tuesday, October 27 at 7:30 p.m.
