Box Score 2 Northampton, Mass. - October 24, 2015 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team defeated Trinity and Wesleyan on Saturday during the Volleyball Hall of Fame Invitational.
The Pride continued it's impressive play, pushing its winning streak to 17 matches and improving 26-2 overall in the season. For her efforts throughout the weekend, Kayleigh Helgesen (Oceanside, Calif.) was named to the All-Tournament Team.
Springfield will continue action on Wednesday, October 28th when they play a critical non-league match against regionally-ranked Amherst at 7:00pm in Blake Arena.
Springfield 3, Trinity 0 (25-17, 26-18, 25-16)
In the sweep of Trinity, Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) led the Pride in kills and blocks, totaling eight and five, respectively. Molly Giannattasio (East Lyme, Conn.) and Marnae Mawdsley (Bolton, Conn.) guided the offense with a total of 24 assists.
Leading the defense was Hannah Lozano (Stockton, Calif.) and Jennifer Hurwitz (Longmeadow, Mass.), as they picked up 17 and 13 digs each. Hurwitz also added six kills on offense, while Helgesen produced five kills and four blocks.
Springfield 3, Wesleyan 0 (25-18, 25-6, 25-18)
In the win over Wesleyan, Rebecca Higgins (Orchard Park, N.Y.) tied her career-high and led the Pride with 11 kills, at a .474 clip.
Holt continued to control the middle with nine kills, hitting .615 and totaling eight blocks, three of which were solo blocks. Helgesen was again strong on the right side with seven kills on 13 errorless swings to go along with three blocks. Mawdsley had a match-high 23 assists while Giannattasio added 13 assists and a pair of aces. Lozano tallied a team-high 12 digs, and Kerry Purcell (Massapequa, N.Y.) chipped in three aces.
The Pride, which owns the best team hitting percentage in Division III women's volleyball, hit a .352 clip in the win, with an impressive .550 clip during the second set.
