Norton, Mass. - October 3, 2015 - A pair of goals from sophomore Dani Sweet (Charlton, Mass.), helped the Springfield College field hockey team cruise past Wheaton, 4-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Saturday afternoon in Norton.

With the win, Springfield now pulls even to 5-5 on the year, and 1-2 in conference play, while the Lyons are now 6-4 overall and 0-3 in the NEWMAC. Springfield out shot Wheaton 19-5 and held a 13-6 advantage in penalty corners over 70 minutes of play.

Additionally, head coach Melissa Sharpe earned her 150th career victory at the helm of Springfield College with the win over the Lyons.

Senior goalkeeper Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.) registered four stops on the afternoon, while her counterpart, Emily Curran (Cohasset, Mass.) registered one stop, before Riley Thompson (Fairfield, Conn.) came on in relief and posted seven stops in 55:32 of play.

After a scoreless first half, Sweet found the back of the net for the first time in her career just 1:54 into the second stanza to give the Pride a 1-0 advantage, before senior Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) notched her fourth goal of the season 3:48 later to give Springfield a 2-0 advantage over the Lyons.

The Pride would take on an insurance goal with 18:37 remaining, when Libby Hart (Chatham, Mass.) slid a pass to Sweet, who found the back of the net for the second time to push Springfield's lead to three. Just 4:02 later, senior Katie Gill (Wallingford, Conn.) notched her fifth goal of the season to make it 4-0, Springfield. The Pride was able to hold off Wheaton in the final minutes of the contest, preserving the shut-out victory.
