Box Score Northampton, Mass. - October 6, 2015 - Behind goals from senior midfielder Brooke Hattinger (Weymouth, Mass.) and sophomore forward Kim Quiles (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.), the Springfield College women's soccer team defeated Smith College, 2-0, on Tuesday afternoon.
With the win, Springfield, which was ranked No. 6 in the latest National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) Division III Regional Rankings, improves to 7-3-1 on the year, and 3-1 in the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC). With the loss, however, Smith falls to 5-3-3 overall, and 1-1-2 in league play.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) saw just one shot on goal through 90 minutes of play, as she finished the contest with one stop. On the other end, Camryn Biasin (Lee, Mass.) and Shelby Hall (West Springfield, Mass.) split halves, as Biasin finished with seven saves, adn Hall with four. Springfield held a 25-3 shot advantage and 7-0 margin in corner kicks.
Hattinger opened the games scoring with 5:21 remaining in the first half, when she buried a direct free kick from just outside the box following a Smith foul, giving the Pride a 1-0 edge prior to the break.
Springfield would add an insurance tally with 1:30 remaining in the contest, when Quiles received a pass at midfield, carried the ball up, and blasted a shot from 25 yards out, that carried over the out-stretched hands of Hall and into the back of the net to seal the victory for the Pride.
Up next, Springfield will continue NEWMAC play when it will travel to Norton, Mass. this weekend for a 12 p.m. match with Wheaton College.
