Springfield, Mass. - September 12, 2015 - The Springfield College field hockey team powered past visiting Husson University, 3-0, in non-conference action on Saturday afternoon at Stagg Field.

Springfield improves to 3-0 on the year, marking the second-straight season that the Pride has won its first three outings.  The loss sets Husson back to 1-4.

Husson controlled much of the play early on in the half, maintaining much of the possession in the Pride's defensive third.  However, Springfield finally broke through  for the game's first goal with 6:25 left in the half as Maggie Kennedy (Clay, N.Y.) backhanded home a shot off an Amanda Nusbaum (Conway, N.H.) rebound to put the hosts ahead.

Kennedy's goal proved to be a spark for the Pride's attack, as just 1:34 later, Katie Gill (Wallingford, Conn.) found Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) along the left goaline extended.  Krull made the most of her first appearance this season, cracking a shot off the far post that riccocheted into the back of the cage.

Gill added to the Pride's lead just 4:22 in the second half, buring a shot from five yards out off a defelected Nusbaum shot. 

Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.) needed to make just four saves in goal to earn the shutout victory.  Anne Marie Provencal was credited with seven saves in the loss for Husson.

Springfield held a 15-7 edge in shots for the game, including a 9-2 cushion in the second half.  Husson held a 12-10 advantage in penalty corners.

Springfield will play again on Sunday when it travels to face Keene State at 12 pm in its first road contest of the season.
