Keene State Hands Field Hockey First Loss of the Season, 3-1

Keene, N.H. - September 13, 2015 - The Springfield College field hockey team suffered its first setback of the 2015 season as it was defeated by Keene State, 3-1, on Sunday afternoonat Owl Athletic Complex.

The Owls improve to 3-2, while the Pride fall to 3-1.

KSC struck first just 7:21 into the game when Haylie Dolan carried the ball down the end line and found Erica Stauffer in front of the cage for her second goal of the season.  Dolan doubled Keene State's lead just four minutes later when her shot off a corner trickled over the goal line.

Springfield would cut the lead in half as Kristina Krull (Leicester, Mass.) collected a loose ball off a corner to put the visitors on the board at the 18:29 mark.  Amanda Nusbaum (Conway, N.H.) was credited with the assist.

Keene State's Sami Smith responded just minutes later when she found herself alone with the keeper, sending home her third goal of the season to give the Owls a two-goal cushion.

Both teams played a scoreless second half for the 3-1 final.  Owls' senior goalkeeper Meaghan Dwyer made four saves, while Timarie Villa (Mashpee, Mass.) made recorded 12 stops in the loss.

The Owls outshot Springfield 16-7 and held a 7-5 edge in corners.

The Pride will play again on Thursday, September 17 when it squares off with local-foe Western New England.  Game time is set for 4:00 pm.
