Box Score New London, Conn. - September 19, 2015 - Behind goals from sophomore forward Kim Quiles (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and senior forward Krissy Cicalis (Bridgewater, Mass.), the Springfield College women's soccer program defeated the Coast Guard Academy Bears, 2-0, on Saturday afternoon.
With the win, Springfield improves to 4-1-1 on the year, and begins its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) title defense with a 1-0 record in conference action, while Coast Guard falls to 4-2 overall and 0-1 in league play.
Sophomore goalkeeper Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) has been impressive for the Pride in her first season as a starter, as she has now collected her fourth shutout of the season, making one stop in the contest. Her counterpart, Rachel Boohar (Oxford, Pa.) registered 13 saves on the afternoon. Springfield also held an 21-2 advantage in shots, and 4-1 margin in corner kicks.
Springfield found the net in the final seconds of the first half, when Quiles beat her defender and drilled a shot to the far post and past Boohar for her fourth goal of the season to give the Pride a 1-0 lead heading into the break
Cicalis would provide some insurance in the second half, when the senior ran down a cross on the right side and sent a shot over a leaping Boohar to find the back of the net and give Springfield a 2-0 cushion with 29:37 left in the contest.
Up next, Springfield will host Endicott College on Tuesday, September 22 at Brock-Affleck Field. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
