Box Score Rochester, N.Y. - September 26, 2015 - The Springfield College football program saw its two-game winning streak come to a halt on Saturday afternoon, as the Pride fell to the University of Rochester Yellow Jackets in its first Liberty League contest of the 2015 season, 29-3, at Edwin Fauver Stadium.
Springfield is now 2-2 overall, and 0-1 in league play, while the Yellowjackets improve to 3-0 overall, 1-0 in the Liberty League. Springfield, which entered the game ranked 10th in Division III in rushing yards per game, rushed 61 times for 219 yards.
Leading the Pride's rushing attack was senior Keith Rodman (Northvale, N.J.), who finished the contest with 16 attempts for 63 yards, while sophomore Jordan Wilcox (Saratoga Springs, N.Y.) registered 36 yards on 12 attempts. Freshman Zach Dubiel (Standish, Maine) posted 31 yards on five rushes, while sophomore quarterback Jake Eglintine (Gansevoort, N.Y.) finished his second-career start with three passing attempts, for 62 yards, and 22 rushing yards on 12 attempts.
Freshman Blake Heller (North Bellmore, N.Y.) nailed his second field goal of the season, as he converted from 21-yards out at the end of the first half to make it 12-3, Rochester, heading into the break. Defensively, junior Kenny Calaj (Everett, Mass.) finished the day with a pair of interceptions and nine tackles, while senior Max Nacewicz (Sandy Hook, Conn.) posted 12 tackles of his own on the afternoon.
For Rochester, quarterback Dan Bronson threw two scoring passes, while Andrew Haber kicked a career-best 38 yard field goal early in the third quarter and made two of three PAT tries.
Rochester's David Wolff got Rochester on the board first, when he picked up a Springfield fumble at the 33 yard line and ran into the end zone to give the Yellow Jackets a 6-0 advantage. Rochester added to its lead on its next possession, as the Yellow Jackets drove 90 yards in 11 plays, when Bronson hit Allegrini in the middle of the end zone to put Rochester up 12-0.
In the second quarter, Springfield drove from its own 24 down to the Rochester four where Heller kicked his field goal. Most of the yardage came on the ground, although Eglintine hit Tyler Hyde (Southington, Conn.) with a 32-yard pass to put the ball into Rochester territory.
Rochester opened the second half with a seven-play, 29-yard drive that ended with Haber's 38-yard field goal. Up 15-3, Bronson rolled to his right and found Szumski crossing from left to right, before Szumski caught the pass and outran defenders down the right sideline to edge into the end zone to give the hosts a 22-3 advantage, sealing the victory.
