Box Score Springfield, Mass. - September 16, 2017 - The Springfield College women's soccer team continued its best start in program history as it delivered a 5-0 victory over Coast Guard in their New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener on Brock-Affleck Field on Saturday.
The Pride is now 6-0 on the year, marking the most consecutive wins to start a season in the program's storied history. The setback dropped Coast Guard to 3-2, 0-1.
Springfield controlled much of the game, owning a 25-8 edge in shots, including a 14-3 cushion in the first half. Additionally, the Pride produced four of the game's five corner kicks.
Mikaela Coady (Middletown, Conn.) opened the game at the 11th minute when she tucked home a great look from Dakota Kelly (Bethany, Conn.) and Springfield would not look back. Sara Swetland (Manchester, N.H.) headed home a Monique Marcelino (Farmington, Conn.) feed at the 20:16 mark before Amanda Wright (Pittsfield, Mass.) netted her first of the game after Mackenzie Luiz (Newington, Conn.) delivered a ball down the right flank in the 38th minute.
Kim Quiles (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) buried an unassisted marker just over 20 minutes into the second half and Wright concluded the game's scoring nine minutes later thanks to an assist from Meghan Sastram (Oxford, Conn.) to extend the advantage to 5-0. Ciara Boucher (Manchester, Conn.) was credited with four saves in the win for the hosts.
The Pride will return to non-conference play on Tuesday when it travels to Newton, Mass. to face Lasell for a 4 pm contest.
