Field Hockey Shuts Down Clark, 6-0

Box Score

Worcester, Mass. - October 16, 2017 - The Springfield College field hockey team netted six goals for the second-straight game as it eased past host Clark University, 6-0, in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday night.

The win lifts the Pride's record to 10-5, but more importantly, 4-2 in conference play.

Emma Wesoloski (South Deerfield, Mass.) scored the first two goals of her collegiate career, including what would prove to be the game-winner, while first-year classmate Kyra Ashe (Longmeadow, Mass.) added a pair of goals herself.  Emmalie Drake (Pittsford, N.Y.) needed to make just five saves to earn the shutout victory.  For the contest, Springfield held a 37-7 edge in shots and took 14 of the game's 15 penalty corners. Springfield reached the sixth-goal plateau for the sixth time this season as five of its six goals were scored by freshmen.

Wesoloski broke through for the game's first goal at the 13 minute mark after she slammed home a rebound, and tacked on another unassisted mark just over nine minutes later on another rebound opportunity.  Springfield's lead grew to 3-0 on a Taylor Conley (Yarmouth Port, Mass.) unassisted goal at 25:06, as the Pride enjoyed a three-goal cushion at the break.

In the second half, Rachael Curtis (East Falmouth, Mass.) pumped home a goal under under 10 minutes into the stanza.  Ashe concluded the scoring with a pair of goals only 1:24 apart, beginning at 61:22 when the first-year buried a feed from Hannah Boylan (Mansfield, Mass.).  Ashe then gave Springfield their sixth goal of the night when she cashed in a look from Gabby Inkel (South Windsor, Conn.).

The Pride will play their final regular-season home game on Saturday when it hosts Wheaton at 12 pm on Stagg Field.
