Box Score

Hartford, Conn. - October 9, 2018 - Playing its third nationally-ranked opponent of the season, the Springfield College field hockey team suffered a 6-0 setback to No. 15 Trinity College on Tuesday night in non-conference play.

Sophomore Caroline Fisher (Kennett Square, Pa.) had a goal and two assists to lead the Bantams to victory.  Trinity, ranked No. 15 in the nation, improves to 9-2 overall with its eighth win in a row, while the Pride drops to 7-5 with its second setback in a row.

Trinity wasted no time getting the scoring going, beginning with the first goal by senior forward Chandler Solimine (Pelham, N.Y.) just 15 seconds after the opening whistle.  Bantam junior midfielder Caroline Curtin (Andover, Mass.) sent a pass in front of the cage from the right end line to Solimine to assist on the opening tally, and gave Trinity a 2-0 lead with a goal of her own on a rebound 6:41 into the game.

Trinity scored three times in a 6:30 span in the middle of the first half to put it away.  Sophomore forward Kendall Brown (Greenwich, Conn.), senior Ally Slowe (Medfield, Mass.), and Fisher scored for the Bantams in that order, and junior forward Cara Bradley (East Lyme, Conn.) scored her first goal of the year later in the opening stanza.  Trinity went into intermission ahead, 6-0, having outshot the Pride, 26-2.  Springfield senior goalkeeper Emmalie Drake (Pittsford N.Y.) made a career-high 17 saves in the first half.

The game was scoreless and featured in just six shots for each team in the second half.  Senior goalie Lori Berger (Scottsdale, Ariz.) made four of her five saves in the second stanza, while rookie backstop Gwen Smith (Westfield, Mass.) had two saves in 35 minutes of play in the cage for the Pride after the break.  The Bantams had 10 penalty corners to two for Springfield and finished with a 32-to-8 shooting advantage.

Springfield will continue non-conference play on Thursday when it travels to face Bridgewater State for a 7 pm contest.
