Box Score

Northampton, Mass. - October 8, 2019 - The Springfield College women's volleyball topped host Smith College in four sets in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) showdown on Tuesday night.  The Pride snapped a two-game slide with the 25-17, 22-25, 25-16, 25-15 victory.

The win lifts Springfield's record to 13-6, 2-4 in conference play, while Smith dropped to 3-15, 0-6.

Ashley Tanner (Manorville, N.Y.) tallied a career-best 15 kills to go alongside 15 digs and three blocks, while Katie vonKampen (South Setauket, N.Y.) notched a team-best 16 kills.  Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) handed out a season-best 48 assists and chipped in 14 digs.  Anagabrielle Sanchez (Caguas, Puerto Rico) led all players with 20 digs.

After Smith opened the game with a 6-1 run, the Pride answered with an 11-5 push to take a 12-11 lead following consecutive kills from Julia O'Connor (Rocky Hill, Conn.).  vonKampen would later register three-consecutive kills to give Springfield a 22-14 cushion and O'Connor delivered her fourth kill of the set for the 25-17 win.

Smith would gain a 16-12 edge in the second set, only to have Springfield score put together a 6-1 surge capped off by back-to-back kills from vonKampen to put the visitors on top, 18-17.  Springfield would maintain a 21-20 lead before the hosts closed out the frame on a 5-1 run which featured three Pride miscues.

The Pride raced out to a 10-5 lead in the third following an ace from Demi Spanos (West Harrison, N.Y.) and never look back.  Springfield would hold Smith just seven kills on a .065 hitting percentage in the set and would take a 2-1 lead in the match following a 25-16 triumph.

Springfield broke open the fourth set with a 9-3 burst that turned an 8-6 lead into a 17-9 advantage after another kill from Tanner.  Tanner would then put away consecutive kills to close out her career night, sealing the 25-15 fourth-set victory.

Springfield will host a tri-match with UMass Boston and Roger Williams beginning at 11 am on Saturday.
