Men's Tennis Comes Up Short Against Emerson, 5-4

Springfield, Mass. - April 10, 2019 - The Springfield College men's tennis team came up just short against visiting Emerson, 5-4, in a New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) meeting on Appleton Courts.

With the loss, the Pride fall to 4-7, 0-3 in conference play, while Emerson improved to 9-5, 1-1.

Emerson took early control of the match, winning all three doubles points to have all the momentum heading into singles action.  The Lions would later pick up wins at No. 2 and No. 3 singles to clinch the match, but the Pride showed plenty of resolve, winning the final four singles match as it dropped the conference battle by a 5-4 margin. Court Honda (Marioka, Japan) battled to a 7-5, 6-3 win at the No. 1 singles spot before Lucas Van Deventer (Ellington, Conn.) bounced back from dropping the first set, 6-2, with a 6-3, 10-5 finish to claim a win at No. 5. Jack Anastopoulos (Chestnut Hill, Mass.) then added a 7-6(3), 6-4 victory at No. 4, and Hieu Ton (Rocky Hill, Conn.) closed out the match with a 6-0, 3-6, 12-10 triumph at No. 6.

This Friday, Springfield will travel to clash with Western Connecticut State for a 3:30 pm contest.
