Women's Volleyball Bounces Back With Four-Set Win At Williams

Box Score

Williamstown, Mass. - October 23, 2021 - After having its seven-match winning streak snapped on Friday evening, the Springfield College women's volleyball team bounced back with a four-set win over Williams to conclude the New England Challenge.  The Pride proved victorious by the scores of 25-22, 21-25, 25-23, 25-17.

The win lifted Springfield to 19-5 on the season, while the Ephs dropped to 12-4.

Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) was dominant for the Pride as she totaled a match-best 15 kills, hitting .481 out of the middle, while adding five blocks.  First-year Jamie Albrecht (Selden, N.Y.) was productive on the right side, delivering 13 kills, eight digs, and three blocks and Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) totaled 37 assists and 16 digs.  Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) also contributed 15 digs and eight kills for the Pride.

Williams used an early 7-1 run to gain a 9-6 lead in the first, only to have the Pride respond with five-straight points to take an 11-9 advantage following a kill from Bancroft.   The set would then be tied seven times until the Pride was able to score consecutive points and build a 20-18 cushion after another Bancroft kill. The Ephs would get as close as 23-22, but Springfield scored the final two points of the frame to take the first stanza.

Trailing 11-9 in the second, Springfield allowed Williams to rattle off five-straight points to take command of the frame.  The Pride would battle back with a 6-1 surge to get within 20-18, but the Ephs offense found its rhythm to pull away with a 25-21 win.

Albrecht produced a block and two kills as part of a third-set opening 5-0 run as the Pride seized early momentum. Bancroft buried a ball to give the Pride a 20-15 edge, but Williams poured on an 8-3 burst to knot the set up at 23. A kill from Kylie Wixted (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) gave the visitors set point and Bancroft and Albrecht teammed up for a block to seal the 25-23 win.

Clinging to a 14-13 lead in the fourth, Springfield benefitted from some pressure from the end line from Briana Tovar (Tuscon, Ariz.) and broke open the set with an 8-2 run, and completed the 25-17 victory with a kill from Billet.

Springfield will wrap up New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) regular-season play on Tuesday when it travels to face Smith at 7 pm.
