Box Score Northampton, Mass. - October 26, 2021 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team wrapped up the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) portion of its regular-season at Smith College on Tuesday night and earned a four-set victory by the scores of 25-12, 25-17, 21-25, 25-20.
For the 38th time in program history, and eighth since head coach Moira Long has been at the helm, the Pride reached the 20-win plateau and improved to 20-5, 6-4 in conference play. The loss pushed Smith to 21-7, 4-5.
Camryn Bancroft (Eastport, N.Y.) delivered a match-best 12 kills in the middle and chipped in four blocks, while Jamie Albrecht (Selden, N.Y.) posted nine kills on the right side. Sara Labadorf (Huntersville, N.C.) tallied 27 assists and eight digs and Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) produced seven kills and eight digs. Additionally, Briana Tovar (Tucson, Ariz.) ripped three aces and Claire Dorr (Massapequa, N.Y.) was credited with a match-high 15 digs.
Leading 14-10 in the first, Springfield rattled off eight-straight points with Tovar at the service line before Billet blasted a kill off the block to conclude the 25-12 win. The Pride hit .444 in the frame and benefitted from Smith committing nine attack errors en route to a -.069 hitting percentage.
Even at 6-6 in the second, Springfield scored three-consecutive points, as consecutive kills from Albrecht gave the Pride a three-point edge. Springfield's lead would balloon to 21-11 on a Tovar ace and the Pride would eventually take a 25-17 win on a Smith attack error. Springfield's offense continued to produce in the second set as it totaled 11 kills at a .375 clip.
After Kylie Wixted (Ronkonkoma, N.Y.) put away a kill to give Springfield a 7-5 lead in the third, the hosts poured on an 11-4 burst as the Pride burned its second timeout facing a 16-11 deficit. The Pride would battle back to within 20-19, only to have Smith regroup and pull out a 25-21 win as it registered 13 kills in the set.
Smith carried that momentum into the fourth, surging out to a 7-3 lead in the early going. The Pride responded with six-straight points and would later break a 15-all tie with a 4-0 run capped off by a backrow kill from Billet. Bancroft would come up with two big kills down the stretch to seal the 25-20 win.
Springfield will conclude the regular season on Saturday when it travels to face Brandeis in a 12 pm match.
