Boston, Mass. - October 29, 2022 - The Springfield College women's soccer program falls by a 2-1 decision to Emerson in the NEWMAC regular season finale on Saturday afternoon. 

 Despite the loss, Kaleigh Dale (Mansfield, Conn.) became the all-time leader in goal-scoring with 52 goals, which surpassed Angela Schofield's record of 51 goals that was set back in 1992. 

The Pride dropped to 8-4-1 to close the regular season and enter the NEWMAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed. Emerson improves to 9-3-5 and 6-1-3 in conference play. The Pride outshot the Lions, 18-11, however Emerson earned four corners in the contest. 

Taryn Ryan (Holyoke, Mass.) turned away three shots, while her counterpart, Amara Schaub saved 10 shots. 

In the 10th-minute, Springfield took a 1-0 lead with Dale's record-breaking goal. Following the pass from Jen Walker (Webster, Mass.), Dale chipped in the score over Schaub for the first lead of the contest. Emerson rebuttled in the 20th-minute after being awarded a penalty kick that Katie Wojcik completed to tie the game at 1-1. Dale looked to add another goal in the 33nd-minute, but the Emerson backline rotated and cleared out the shot for the defensive save. At 43:49, Emerson looked to go ahead, but the Pride defended a corner well and forced Ryle Tanner to head the ball high to enter the half tied at 1-1. 

The Lions took its first lead of the game in the 63rd-minute as Hannah Beck skipped in a goal to make the score 2-1. Following the goal, Springfield searched for its chance to tie and received great chances from Dale, who put four shots on frame, but came up short leading to the loss. 

Springfield enters the NEWMAC Tournament as the No. 5 seed and will play in the Quarterfinal on Tuesday night.
