Box Score Worcester, Mass. - October 4, 2022- The Springfield College women's volleyball team bounced back with a three-set sweep of Clark in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) play on Tuesday evening. The Pride earned the win by the scores of 25-17, 25-18, 25-17.
The Pride improved to 9-4 and evened its conference record to 3-3, while Clark fell to 9-9, 3-3 as well.
Megan Kirtyan (Massapequa Park, N.Y.) led a balanced Springfield offense that had five student-athletes with at least six kills as she handed out 33 assists to go along with eight digs. Maeve Voltz (Bay Shore, N.Y.) and Riley Donahue (South Windsor, Conn.) each shared match-high honors for kills with eight, while Olivia Gentry (Loveland, Ohio) added seven kills, and Jamie Albrecht (Selden, N.Y.) and Natalie Billet (Commack, N.Y.) tacked on six. Ally Townsend (Hummelstown, Pa.) led all players with 15 digs and chipped in a pair of aces as Springfield held Clark to a .084 hitting percentage.
Springfield used a 4-0 run early in the opening set to seize a 7-4 lead and would pull away late with a 9-2 surge that allowed them to gain a 20-11 cushion following back-to-back attack errors by the Cougars. Voltz would seal the 25-17 win following her fifth kill of the first set.
After Clark use a 4-1 spurt to open up a 12-9 lead in the second, Springfield responded with a 7-1 push that was capped off by an ace from Townsend. Clark would pull within 16-15, only to have Gentry produce three kills to fuel another 7-1 run as the Pride coasted to the 25-18 victory.
A back-and-forth start to the third would find the teams knotted at 7-7 before three-straight points from Springfield allowed the visitors to take the lead for good. The Pride scored the final four points of the match, with Gentry converting in the middle for visitors 14th kill of the third set in the 25-17 win.
This Friday, Springfield heads to Rhode Island to face Johnson & Wales at 7 pm.
